20 YEARS AGO AUGUST 22, 2003 v City councilors unanimously gave their backing to a request for the creation of a “tax-free zone” in the Grand Marais Business Development Area that, if successful, will encourage new businesses to move into town. The proposal was put forth by John Kremer, director of the Joint Cook County/Grand Marais Economic Development Authority.

On Wednesday, August 16 Wolf Ridge Environmental Learning Center announced that the Association of Nature Center Administrators (ANCA) has chosen Wolf Ridge Executive Director Peter Smerud as the recipient of the 2023 ANCA Nature Center Leadership Award. This award acknowledges Smerud’s major achievements at Wolf Ridge Environmental Learning Center and as a national leader in outdoor school. Smerud is the first Minnesotan to receive the award.

The Bible ends with the book of Revelation describing the condition of the world and events that will usher in the end of the world, as we know it. We are seeing the “setting of the stage” of these endtime events today. Romans 1 describes what we see happening in our world right now!

North House was in full swing this summer, and that included a variety of programs and activities for youth ages 5-15. This year, four 5-day youth camps were held in July and August with over two-thirds of the youth being from Cook County.
