Lutsen Township upgrades historic community park

Lutsen Township upgraded a community recreation area with the restoration of existing facilities and addition of new amenities. The area has historical significance to the small township located along Minnesota’s North Shore. The decadesold ballfield was resurfaced with new infield dirt, fencing was added, gates were repaired and electrical was installed to support the concession stand, storage area and flag pole. A gazebo, picnic tables, soccer nets and an engraved historical marker were added. The project also involved brushing of the surrounding area, dead tree removal, landscaping and a refuse station for the existing dog park portion.

BGCS Annual Painting in the Woods with Mary LaBarge

Birch Grove Community School held its annual “Painting in the Woods” with Mary LaBarge, local artist this first week of October. This year the painting theme was the Northern Lights, where students had a more personal choice of the colors to be used for the “lights” portion of their painting.

Marching Band I have, from time to time, harbored dreams of being a rock star. A handful of my best mates (I’m British in this fantasy) making music together.

Update for Creechville housing and Tofte housing projects

It looks like it will be next spring before shovels will be in the ground for the 51 apartments being built by Switchback Village, LLC in Grand Marais. Bids were opened and tabled for further review on July 28 for Phase 1 of the project located on 5th Avenue West in Creechville on about 12 acres of land sold to the developers for $1 by the City of Grand Marais.

Our Clean Energy Economy

Castle Danger Brewery of Two Harbors graciously hosted the well-attended MPR Rural Voice forum on Affordable Housing in Minnesota, expertly moderated by Kerri Miller. Audience participation was great, and a number of problems and solutions related to our affordable housing crisis were discussed. However, one important element was not addressed; affordability and accessibility of homes also depends on their annual energy costs.

Enrolling Through MNsure offers great savings on 2024 health insurance plans

Minnesotans who receive tax credits through MNsure will spend 5% less on health insurance premiums next year, on average Starting November 1, Minnesotans who need health insurance can sign up for 2024 coverage through MNsure, Minnesota’s official health insurance marketplace, where they can easily find, choose and purchase health insurance. MNsure’s open enrollment period begins November 1, 2023, and will run through January 15, 2024.
