20 YEARS AGO JULY 25, 2003 v The county board voted Tuesday to deny a rezoning request that would have created smaller, additional building lots in the Echo Woods Plat near McFarland Lake in Hovland. It was the second time in three months that such a request had come before the county commissioners; the first request was voted down on May 27.

West End Garden Club flower show a blooming success!

Members of the West End Garden Club rose to the theme Grammas Attic. Creativity abounded from pitchers, coffee grinders to a 1940s wedding dress. Bouquets were placed in doll houses and history scrapbooks were viewed by many. The setting at the Surfside Event center gave a special backdrop to Lake Superior.

New rules for adult use recreational cannabis take effect August 1

Starting August 1, 2023, anyone 21 and older will be able to possess or transport two ounces of cannabis flower, and up to eight ounces of cannabis concentrates. Adults will also be able to keep up to two pounds of adultuse cannabis flower in their place of residence. A person can possess up to 800 milligrams of edible THC, the active ingredient in cannabis.
