The 2024 Cook County Budget The 2024 budget season began on April 11 when the county board approved the budget calendar. Preliminary department budgets were due on May 26 with the deadline for final department requests on June 29.

Senior Legion falls to Two Harbors

The first two innings told the tale of this game as Two Harbors scored three in the first and three in the second while holding the Vikings scoreless. Down 6-0, the Vikings scored one in the third and one in the fourth, but Two Harbors punched back with two in the fourth and went on to win 8-2.

Fundraising for Costa Rica for CCHS cultural trip has begun

Cook County High School Spanish teacher Erin Petz Giguere hopes to take a group of students to Costa Rica next year, reviving a tradition that she took advantage of in high school. As near as anyone can remember, the last time kids from CCHS went on an international cultural trip was around 2010.

Briand Morrison releases new CD

Grand Portage guitarist Briand Morrison has created a new CD titled “Old Feathers.” He released it on July 14 at Grand Marais Art Colony’s Studio 21. Briand is a recipient of an Arrowhead Regional Arts Council Established Regional Artist Grant 2021 to support this project’s writing, recording, production, and release.

A house once owned by David and Margaret Hilton called the “Jagerhaus German Bed & Breakfast” burned to the ground on Tuesday, July 11. A caller at 8:52 p.m.

Cook County Board of Commissioners July 11 meeting highlights

Bruce Kimmel, a senior financial advisor from Ehlers Public Finance Advisors came before the board to discuss updates to the county’s financial plan which includes revenue and expenditures through 2032. Kimmel proposed a strategy that will be updated periodically for financing the implementation of the County’s Capital Improvement Plan (CIP).
