This is what most fishermen dream about! But Bernie Larsen gets up early early morning hours and catches ‘em. This rainbow beauty weighed 8 pounds, 5 ounces. A number of big ones have been caught by fishermen in this area recently. The “one that got away” was the one hooked by Larry Wilson. Larry fought the big fish close for two hours, and both the fish and man were considerably spent, but the fish won. It broke the line and was off. Conservation Officer Tales

Although the Cook County News-Herald knows that the majority of sportsmen and women are law-abiding folks, there are a few that run afoul of the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources (DNR) Conservation Officers. Periodically, the DNR provides a report of some of the miscreants the Conservation Officers (CO) have encountered. The News-Herald shares these stories as a reminder to all to be safe and to follow the rules!

Grand Marais Library receives an unexpected donation

Grand Marais Public Library Director Amanda St. John pleasantly surprised the Library Board with the news that the library had received an unexpected gift of $11,400 from the Friends of the Library, a voluntary group that supports the county’s libraries.
