
Volleyball team beats Northeast Range

On a rainy, chilly Friday, Sept. 12 evening, the 2-0 Vikings started a game against the 0-2 South Ridge Panther football team at home in front of a small but enthusiastic crowd. However, after about half a quarter of play, the game was halted because of lightning. Both teams, along with the officials, followed safety protocols and went into the locker rooms, where they waited for two hours before the game was called.
The CCHS girls’ volleyball team traveled to McGregor on Thursday, Sept. 11, to face the McGregor Mercs, who have yet to win a match this season.
On a cold, wet, windy night the 1-0 Cook County High School football team traveled to Silver Bay on Thursday, September 4 to face their north shore rival the Silver Bay Mariners.
The Superior Fall Trail races: 100 miles, 50 miles, and 26 miles- were run on a cold, rainy Friday, Sept. 5th, and a cool but drier Saturday, Sept. 6th.
Out of a field of 14 cross-country teams, the North Shore Storm boys’ team finished second, and the girls’ team finished third to Duluth East at the Dan Conway Classic held in Superior, Wisconsin, on Thursday, September 4th.
The Cook County High School girls' volleyball team traveled to Floodwood on Thursday, September 4, to face the 5-1 Floodwood Polar Bears, and the Vikings lost 3-0, with the Vikings losing the first game 26-24 in a nail-biter.
Playing in front of a home crowd, the Vikings had no trouble beating the Carlton- Wrenshall Raptors 69-6 last Thursday in the first game of the season for both teams.
The Vikings’ volleyball season got off to an exciting start last week. Over the course of two days, the Vikings played four teams, recording two wins and two losses.
This fall, the Viking volleyball team is set for a fresh start under the guidance of Susan Prom, our new Head Coach, and Colette Mueller, who steps up as the Junior Varsity Head Coach. With their innovative approach and dedication, along with the assistance of a dedicated group of volunteer coaches with extensive club and college level backgrounds helping regularly we’re excited to see what this season holds.
