Vikings fall to Mountain Iron-Buhl

Brian Larsen The Cook County High School football team opened its season at home on Friday, August 31, and lost 66-14 to Mountain Iron-Buhl (MIB) last year’s 9-Player State Champions. Rohan Rude, who is listed as a running back, outside linebacker and middle linebacker, was named Offensive Player of the Game for the Vikings.

North Superior Ski and Run Club receives two grants for the Pincushion Trails Rehabilitation Project

North Superior Ski and Run Club (NSSRC) announces that is has received $10,000 from the Legacy Trails Program, administered by American Trails, for the Pincushion Trails Rehabilitation Project, Cook County, Minnesota. In addition, NSSRC has received $12,500 from the Department of Iron Range Resource and Rehabilitation for the rehabilitation project and purchase of a new flail mower.

Fisherman Picnic trail run results

This year’s five-mile Fisherman’s Picnic trail race held on the Pincushion Mountain trail system was truly five miles, not 4.77 miles as the old racecourse proved to be. That said, the hilly race, as always, was challenging, and place, not time, was the goal of most competitors. Anton and Brienne Moody were the new race directors who changed the course. Anton said he wanted the five-mile race to be, well, five miles. Good enough. Below are the results, but you will note that Chris Hegg wasn’t entered. Chris, 71? an age group wunderkind is recouping from a hamstring injury suffered while cross country skiing. He said he would be back next year.

NSSRC nearing its fundraising goal for new Pincushion ski grooming equipment

“Thisisaonce-in-a-generation investment in our community and the future of Nordic skiing on the trails at Pincushion,” said Chris O’Brien, President of the North Superior Ski and Run Club (NSSRC) and one of the eight Pincushion Groomer Capital Campaign volunteers working to raise the funds needed for a new Pisten Bully groomer for Pincushion. “The current groomer is 35 years old. It has served us for many decades, but it is failing, breaking down frequently and struggling to climb and groom the hilly terrain at Pincushion.”
