On July 30 the Happy Hikers will begin at the SHT trailhead on Pike Lake Rd., CR 45. We will follow the trail along the east side of the Cascade River. This is a beautiful hike along the river, with many stunning views of rushing water and waterfalls. We will continue hiking the varied terrain and elevation through cedar, pine, alder, and birch. There are a few steep sections and one fairly easy water crossing. Well-behaved dogs on a leash are welcome. We will enjoy our lunch in the park picnic area down by the lake. This is a through hike and will require a shuttle back to our vehicles.

Lutsen’s Alessandra (Ali) Duclos placed fourth in the Elite Women’s field at the Three Rivers Roleo logrolling tournament held July 11-12 at the Duck Creek Quarry in Howard, Wisconsin.

Life Time welcomed more than 2,000 cyclists to Minnesota’s North Shore for the 2025 Life Time Lutsen 99er presented by Visit Cook County on Saturday, June 28. The fourteenth annual event saw participants from ages two to 77 take on one of five events, including the 29-mile, 45-mile, 59, and signature 99-mile distances, as well as kids' races.

The Happy Hikers will hike the Superior Hiking Trail (SHT) from the east side of the Cross River to Temperance River State Park. The hike begins on the SHT spur trail starting from the Skou Road SHT parking lot. The hike traverses gradually uphill and connects with the main SHT with a great view of the Cross River. We’ll hike east through a variety of different stands of trees and views of Lake Superior. The trail crosses Temperance Road, and we’ll hike the west side of the Temperance River. We’ll cross over to the east side of the river at the bridge and continue along the east side of the river to the parking lot. We’ll cross over Hwy 61 and have lunch in the picnic area along Lake Superior. This will be a through hike and a short car shuttle will be necessary from the Temperance River Park Wayside parking area back to the Skou Road SHT Parking Lot.

Jake Mixdorf, a senior and a key player on the Viking’s baseball team, was named to the all-conference squad. Jake will play in the Polar League All-Star game held at Wade Stadium on June 16.

Local Girls on the Run participated in the Duluth 5k on Sunday, June 1st. Sixteen of the twenty participants along with their running buddies and coaches started at Leif Erikson Park, ran along the boardwalk to the pier and returned to a fun finish back at the Park.
